Index Compression and Control
For full text indexing the index base typically will be less than one third the
size of the original documents. The index includes all words and their relative
positions, allowing for complete phrase and proximity searches. ProIndex gives
you complete control of what constitutes an indexable character string.
Complex Search Capability
In addition to keyword, Boolean, wildcard, phrase, and proximity search expressions,
there is a paraphrase search expression where you can find a phrase which your
submitted phrase aproximates—you control the span allowed (the number of
extra words allowed between any two consecutive words in the phrase expression
submitted) and the number of expendable words in your phrase list. You
can search for numbers in a specified range. You can restrict the search
to a specific field or to a particular set of documents or you can exclude a
specific set of documents. The options to nest expressions are virtually
limitless. For instance: you can nest Boolean, wildcard, range, phrase,
proximity, or even nested expressions, within a proximity or phrase expression.
Accuracy
Search results are always accurate and 100% complete, because no artificial boundaries
are created when indexing documents, large or small. Typically, every word
is indexed so that you could easily find “to be or not to be” or “Lord
of the Flies” without worrying about stop words or sorting through results
that are not even close to the reference you wanted.
Ideal Numbers
Numbers may be indexed as ASCII strings or as Ideal Numbers. With Ideal
Numbers you get the ordering you would expect for a range search. You can
also work with negative numbers, decimals, and scientific notation. You
are restricted to 200 digits in the base and 200 digits in the exponent. (Mathematicians
may appreciate the fact that since the exponent exceeds googol then the allowable
magnitude will far exceed googolplex.) Infinity and negative infinity are
also represented. In short, if you are working with lots of numbers, big
and small, ProIndex handles them beautifully.
Word List
The word list feature is efficient and allows for a variety of options. You
can open a word list that comes from a particular text field or a combination
of fields. You can open more than one word list at a time or create a word
list from several related or unrelated indexes.
CD/DVD Applications
ProIndex is the perfect solution for developers shipping programs and information
on CD/DVD-ROM. Simple or complex search expressions are quickly executed
because the text files are not required until the results are calculated and
you are ready to view the text of a resulting hit.
Versatile
ProIndex has been carefully designed so that artificial restrictions will rarely
be encountered. For instance: the default limit on the number of characters in
the search expression is 4,000 bytes. Ask us for ideas or explain your
application model and let us suggest options you may never have considered.
